On-page SEO is everything you do on your own website to improve its ranking in Google. Unlike off-page SEO which depends on other websites, on-page SEO is entirely in your control. Master these techniques and you'll outrank most Indian business websites in your category.

Title Tags: Your Most Important On-Page Element

The title tag is the blue clickable text in Google search results. It's the single most important on-page SEO element. Rules: keep it under 60 characters, include your primary keyword near the beginning, include your city if you're local, make it compelling enough to click. Bad: "Home - Sharma Dental Clinic." Good: "Best Dentist in Bangalore | Sharma Dental Clinic."

Meta Descriptions: Your Search Result Advertisement

Meta descriptions don't directly affect ranking but they determine whether people click. Keep them under 160 characters. Include your keyword, your USP, and a call to action. "Affordable dental care in Bangalore. Root canals, braces, implants. Book a free consultation today." This gets clicks. "We provide quality dental services to patients in Bangalore." This does not.

URL Structure: Short, Descriptive, Keyword-Rich

Good URLs are short and describe the page content. yoursite.com/dentist-bangalore is good. yoursite.com/page?id=47&cat=services&ref=nav is terrible. Use hyphens not underscores. Include the main keyword. Keep it under 75 characters. Avoid dates in URLs for evergreen content.

Heading Hierarchy: H1, H2, H3

Each page should have exactly one H1 — your main page title, including your primary keyword. Use H2 for major sections and H3 for sub-points. This structure tells Google what your page is about and in what order of importance. Never skip heading levels or use multiple H1s.

Content Depth and Comprehensiveness

Google rewards content that fully answers a user's question. A dental clinic's "tooth extraction" page shouldn't be 200 words. It should explain the procedure, cost, recovery time, what to expect, aftercare, and answer common concerns. Pages that answer every question a visitor could have rank higher than thin pages that answer only the basics.

Internal Linking: Your SEO Multiplier

Internal links pass authority between pages and help Google understand your site structure. Every article should link to 3–5 other relevant pages on your site. Every service page should link to related service pages and your contact page. Use descriptive anchor text: "book a dental consultation" not "click here."

Image Optimisation

Images slow pages down and miss SEO opportunities when done wrong. Compress every image to under 100KB. Save in WebP format. Name files descriptively: "dental-clinic-bangalore.webp" not "IMG_3847.jpg". Add alt text that describes the image and includes your keyword naturally.

Page Speed as a Ranking Factor

Google confirmed page speed is a ranking factor. Every additional second of load time reduces conversions by 7% and rankings over time. Use PageSpeed Insights to identify issues. The most common culprits: uncompressed images, render-blocking JavaScript, no CDN, and cheap hosting. A Next.js website on Vercel solves all of these by default.
